Get to grips with your emotional intelligence
By Alex Christie (BA Hons, LCHE, MARH, B.Inst.A.T.)
We acquire the emotional habits that will govern our lives during our early years. The emotional lessons we learn throughout our childhood and adolescence give us the foundation of our emotional intelligence. Many of us find though, that we are poorly equipped since our parents and those close to us also lacked emotional intelligence and could not teach what they themselves did not know. Often we end up repeating our parent’s mistakes because we do not know any better.
Although our self-awareness and our understanding of how to relate to both ourselves and others is paramount to our happiness and well being in life, the teaching of emotional intelligence is left to chance. If you are lucky you have good role models, if not then your emotional intelligence can be severely limited.
The drawback to lacking emotional intelligence is that when we face situations which awaken strong emotions in us, our rational mind is swamped with powerful feelings and before we have time to reflect logically we react, most often inappropriately. Can you remember a time when strong emotions caused you to react unreasonably and you were at a loss to explain your actions afterwards?
The Sedona Method® has been called the most effective self-awareness program of our time. It teaches emotional intelligence by increasing your self-awareness and giving you the skills to let go of any emotion at any time, in any situation. This means your rational brain will no longer be hijacked by your emotions, and you will be able to act in the most positive way regardless of the circumstances in which you find yourself.
As you learn emotional intelligence and how to recognize and master your own emotions, so your awareness of other people grows. The more your emotional intelligence enables you to act in a positive way both at home and at work, the more relationships improve, your self-confidence grows, and your enjoyment of life increases.
The Sedona Method® enables you to let go of not only emotions as they arise, but also destructive patterns of behaviour, by combining emotional intelligence with emotional releasing. As negative feelings or beliefs arise you can let them go, enabling you to see clearly, to engage the thinking brain in deciding what best to do, and by then taking the most positive action.
At various times throughout our lives we are faced with different challenges, which bring up different emotions. Certain emotions can be overwhelming, or cause us to act in a destructive way. The emotional intelligence learned with the Sedona Method® enables you to identify and feel your emotions and to let them go within a matter of moments. People find their lives transformed as they increasingly remain calm and centred, and able to feel, think, and act positively regardless of what is happening around them.
Teenagers who acquire the emotional intelligence taught on the Sedona Method® find they are not overwhelmed by strong emotions, and they are able to manage their lives with greater ease.
The Sedona Method® of emotional intelligence is taught in seminars, on a one-to-one basis, outlined in books, and taught on an audio course. For dates of seminars please visit my seminars link or the main Sedona Training web site at www.sedona.com and see the events listing. Please contact me directly if you are interested in a one-to-one session. Phone sessions can also be arranged.
